United Nations Habitat Day & Resources

First celebrated in 1986, World Habitat Day (the first Monday in October) was designated by the United Nations as a time to “reflect on the state of our habitats, and on the basic right of all to adequate shelter” and as a reminder “that we all have the power and the responsibility to shape the future of our cities and towns.” We will use this month to highlight and reflect on what we all can do to end homelessness.

Dakota County (South) Chapter 2022 Virtual Bus Tour

On Wednesday, December 2, people from all around joined elected officials, city staff, faith leaders, community members and people experiencing homelessness and housing crises for an interactive and informational virtual bus tour to learn firsthand about local homelessness and housing concerns, and explore creative solutions being implemented in Dakota County.

Northeast Chapter Report June 2022

Washington County is making further steps along the road to permanent emergency housing for single adults. Several months ago, the County Board authorized spending $6 million in American Rescue Plan funds to buy and renovate a building for use as a shelter. “Plan A” is buying a hotel; the County had been using COVID funds to house homeless people in hotels over the last few years.

The process is slow, but moving forward!
