MICAH NorthEast Update, Summer 2018

This has been another busy year for the MICAH Northeast chapter. We continued with our monthly morning meetings, generally rotating meetings between the city halls of White Bear Lake and Mahtomedi but held one meeting in Stillwater and another in Hugo to broaden our outreach and work. Continued effort to connect with local faith communities has been important as we look to the future of our efforts together.

A continuing focus for this year - - and the next - - has been work on the comprehensive plans of our representative communities. Updates are brought by members to our monthly meetings. Many of our members attend their own local meetings and speak with elected officials about the importance of affordable housing in any future plans.

We have been more intentional this year with connections to the White Bear Lake senior program. They are involved in housing needs and we are cooperating with them in publicity, staffing displays, and co-sponsoring events about affordable housing as well as how to advocate for continued housing needs. This could be a model for reaching out to other senior programs in our area in the future.

We continue plans for our annual bus tour in October which will focus more on the north portion of our area this year. Our third annual legislative breakfast is planned for January 2018; invitations go not only state legislators but also to local, county, and Met Council officials.
