St. Paul 2023 Autumn Report

The St. Paul MICAH Chapter Virtual Bus Tour was very well attended this year, with over 60 guests and a well-crafted roster of stops, all along the continuum to housing. At almost every point in the tour we saw the impact of the historic legislative actions that were taken this year, as a unified state government invested heavily in shelter, housing, and other services.

“Best tour we’ve had” commented one of the MICAH regulars, as attendance and quality of presentation were both top-notch.

Saint Paul Chapter July Report

Freedom from the Streets, MICAH, & St. Timothy Lutheran hosted a BBQ on June 10. And, at the June Chapter meeting we hosted Rachael Sterling from HOME Line to find out about the newly passed tenant protections at the state level - the biggest expansion of renter’s rights in a single session in the state’s history, with new laws taking effect on 1/1/24.

Renter Organizing Action at The Haven of Battle Creek

On March 17, 2022, the St Paul Chapter of MICAH heard a report from members of the East Side Housing Justice group and the Southeast Community Organization tenant organizer about organizing happening at The Haven of Battle Creek, a 215 unit apartment building on the southeast edge of St. Paul.

The St. Paul Chapter of MICAH agreed to support the work of East Side Housing Justice at The Haven by attending its first organizing meeting for tenants, held on March 21st. At that meeting, 20 tenants got to know each other better and shared information with one another about problems they were having at The Haven.
